What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion removes the outermost layer of skin by exfoliation and exposing living skin cells that are receptive to nutrients. This promotes generation of new collagen which thickens the dermis(skin) and improves resistance to the effects of aging.
How is Microdermabrasion performed?
Microdermabrasion may require a series of treatments. When repeated regularly from 3-16 weeks, the cumulative results can be significant. Microdermabrasion is easy to undergo. It does not require anesthesia either local or general. I have heard some people say that it feels like sandpaper on their skin. If your skin is sensitive you expect your treated skin to look slightly pink.
What is it used for?
- Hyperpigmentation
- Uneven skin tone or texture post laser
- Reducing skin “dullness” that accompanies aging skin
- Some stretch marks
- Softening some saucer like acne scars and some other forms of scarring
- Smoothing out fine wrinkle lines. Procedure will not make a huge difference on advanced deep wrinkles
- Reducing the appearance of enlarged pores
What is should it NOT be used for?
- Not appropriate for keloidal scaring, as it may stimulate further scar formation.
- Not appropriate for jagged ice-pick scars.
- Skin cancers
- This is not a method for the removal of skin growths.
- Rosacea or couperose skin
Microdermabrasion Facial or Back Treatments
Packages may be used as a maintenance program after initial treatment – To be used 2 weeks for the first few treatments to correct a problem, then spaced 4-6 weeks apart for healthy skin maintenance.
